Yarragon Primary School and Yarragon Pre-School share the same site and work together in many areas including excursions, concerts and performances, group days, buddies, professional development and, of course, transition.

Our transition process commences right from day one of kinder when the preschoolers see their brothers and sisters and others as the play in their adjoining playgrounds. During the year the preschoolers participate in a “buddies” program with Grade 4 children. This allows the preschoolers to have someone “big” who they know when they complete the formal prep orientation later in the year and gives them students in the playground they are familiar with when they commence school. It also enhances the Grade 4 student’s sense of responsibility and care for others.

During the year the kinder and infant section of the school may attend incursions together and the preschoolers may be invited to participate in group days with the school completing fun and educational activities in multi aged groups. The preschool may also run a “brothers and sisters” session where older siblings or friends are invited to the kinder to complete some activities and see the work of the preschoolers.

During June and July Yarragon Primary School opens Prep enrolments for the following year and invites all prospective families to an information session at the school. They will also give out information about the school and how to enrol. Tours of the school can be arranged at any time. Ring the Principal on 56 342 375.

Our Prep Orientation program usually runs over three sessions during November and December each year and this is combined with a parent information session on having your child ready for prep. For some children the orientation program is modified to suit their needs.

Kinder/Prep transition works very well at Yarragon due to our close proximity and our Prep children settle in very quickly to their new school.
